Ann Sarah Windross nee Ward (1839-1925) was born in Warlingham, Surrey. She was one of 5 children. Her parents were Richard Ward (1803-1878) and Elizabeth Quiddington (1800-1883). In the 1871 census Richard was recorded as Builder and Farmer employing 37 men although in 1841 he was a Wheelwright.

In the 1841 to 1881 censuses Ann Sarah was living with her family in Warlingham. No occupation is recorded. In 1882, aged 43, she married Solomon Windross (1826-1898). Solomon, aged 56, had previously been married to Jane Foster (1824-1877). Solomon was a prominent local farmer and was originally from Yorkshire.

In 1901, now widowed, Ann Sarah lived in Warlingham with her cousin Edith Elysa Brooke (1869-1950) and her niece Annie Elizabeth Windross (1873-1966) at the address to which the card was sent in Chapel Road. In 1911 she was at the same address in Warlingham with Annie Elizabeth.
