"Dear B

Winnie enjoying lovely weather down by sea"

the sender

There is no signature. The only clue is the name "Winnie", but that has not revealed any further information.

the recipient

Beatrice Alice Tarr (1882-1965) was the daughter of James Tarr (1845-1928) and Sara Jane Allen (1840-1908). James was a carpenter. He was married twice, the second time to Eliza Winter (1855-?).

At the time that this card was sent Beatrice was working as a cook for a retired solicitor called Archibald Reeves. Her sister, Elizabeth Jane (1868-1947) was the housemaid. In 1911 Beatrice was housemaid for her brother William Henry Tarr (1878-1959), a pork butcher.

In 1913, Beatrice emigrated to Canada and settled in Winnipeg where she continued to work as a housekeeper. In 1921 she married William Henry Given (1887-1965), an Irish immigrant draughtsman.

what the card says to us

The picture shows Clevedon Court in Somerset which is now a National Trust property. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clevedon_Court). The card was posted in Clevedon.

The rest of the card is a mystery. Who sent it? Who is Winnie? Why has this card survived for over 100 years? Did it also emigrate to Canada?
