Dear Frances
Just to wish you the best of luck during the week.
Kindest regards

the sender
The sender was Lilian Eleanor Tarrant (1883-1960). She was the third of six children. Her parents were Richard Phillip Tarrant (1860-1929), a tailor, and Florence Madeline Langstaff (1860-1930). Lilian was a teacher and in 1911 she married another teacher, Bertram Edgar Pengelly (1882-1947), the son of William Henry Pengelly (1844-1917), an engine driver of a thrashing machine (or should that be threshing) and Rebecca Toms (1843-1926). Bertram was born in Cornwall. Bertram and Lilian had three children.

what the card says to us
There is nothing to say where the photo on the front of the card was taken. The title is "Stranded" which is perhaps not the best for a card being used to wish good luck!
This was a good luck card. Lilian was 24 and Frances 20 in 1907. This is probably the first year of formal teacher training for Frances at the Home & Colonial Training College. Perhaps this is her first week. Lilian is a teacher from the same area of London and may be a friend or even a former teacher of Frances.
The Home and Colonial Training College was in Lordship Lane, Wood Green from 1904-1930 and was for training school mistresses. Today the building is used for the Wood Green Crown Court having also been offices for the Tottenham District Gas Company.
