what the card says to us

The picture is entitled "Chic" and appears to have no connection to the message or the family.

The message mentions an examination but there is no clue as to what was being examined. Marie was 15 when the card was sent and remained working on her father's farm at least until 1911. In later life she worked as a hotel receptionist. Presumably the examination was some form of school certificate.

The message mentions the engagement of Eva. This is probably Marie's cousin Eva Gaudion (1887-?) although she was unmarried in 1911 no marriage record has been identified. The available Channel Islands records appear to be incomplete as very few marriages and deaths have shown up for Eva and her relatives.

The writer, A R, is a friend of Marie's mother. They may even be family as they are interested in Eva.
