Dora Louisa Jameson (1884-1969) was born in Moseley, Birmingham. She was the daughter of William Jameson (1846-1899) and Elizabeth Wilkinson (1844-1934). In 1891 William was a Stationer and Newsagent.

In 1891 Dora was living with her parents in Kings Norton, Birmingham. In 1901 she was living with her now widowed mother, still in Kings Norton. In 1911 she was living with or visiting her sister Ellen Annie Simms nee Jameson (1875-1971) in Sparkhill, Birmingham. No occupation is given.

In 1916 Dora married Arthur George Hobbiss (1888-1963). They were still together in 1939, living in Sparkbrook and Arthur is listed as a Machine Tool Engineer.

Dora’s death is recorded in Birmingham in 1969. She was 25 when she sent the card.

Lily Emma Jameson nee Derrington (1883-1967) was born in Balsall Heath, Birmingham. She was the daughter of William Henry Derrington (1850-1921) and Emma Evans (1856-1884). William, according to the 1911 census was an Engineer (Stationery) with a Munitions Company. Emma was the second of William’s 3 wives and she died shortly after Lily’s birth.

In 1891 Lily was living with her father and stepmother, Sarah Jane Williams (1852-1924) in Aston, Birmingham. In 1901 she was still with them in Aston and she was working as a Clerk.

In 1908 Lily married William Dyke Jameson (1881-1949) the brother of the card sender. In 1911 they were living in Moseley, Birmingham and William was a Commercial Traveller in Holloware and China. They were still together in 1939 living in Solihull and William was still a Commercial Traveller in Holloware.

Lily’s death was recorded in Evesham, Worcestershire in 1967.

what the card says to us

The picture shows a man in a boat and does not see to relate to the family or the message.

Lily and William appear to be on holiday in Taunton. It is February which is an unusual time for a holiday but they only got married in the previous October so perhaps this is a delayed honeymoon.

There is mention of house animals. Presumably cats and/or dogs but possibly something else. Fortunately they are serene. It is not clear who Auntie is.
