the recipient
Emily Maude Hawke (1888-1977) was the sixth of eight children. Her parents were George Dowrick Hawke (1842-1917) and Eunice Sawson (1848-1920). In the 1911 census, George's profession is given as Seagoing Carpenter. Emily was a Tie Manufacturer Assistant. In this census she was using the name Maude rather than Emily.
In 1919 Emily Maude married Andrew James Angel (1887-1962) who was a railway clerk. They do not appear to have had any children.

what the card says to us
There were some strange birthday postcards in 1912 and this is one of them. What is the significance of the sea?
A long promised postcard has arrived, but we don't know who it was from. Presumably it was sent to Flossie.
Flossie is late with her birthday card.
