the sender
James Lawrence Noble (1881-1924) was the son of Joseph Noble (1851-1921) and Rachel Meats (1853-1899). Joseph at times was a Baker, a Flour Agent and a Flour Seller. Joseph was born in Nottingham and his father was born in Derbyshire. There is no sign of any Scots in the line. Rachel’s father was called Neptune Meats.
James was a Yarn Seller in 1901 and a Cashier in 1911. In 1909 he married Agnes Wright the recipient of this card.
the recipient
Agnes Wright (1883-?) was the daughter of Herbert Wright (1852-1906) and Annie Bragg (1855-1935). Herbert was a Lace Maker.
Agnes married James, the sender of the card in 1909. After James’ death in 1924, no further record of Agnes could be found.

what the card says to us
The picture shows Highland Mary (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Campbell_(Highland_Mary)) who is famous for her association with Robert Burns.
The card has many references to Scotland and being Scots. It was posted in Edinburgh. Presumably James was on business there, as a Yarn Seller. He makes reference to being Scots although there is no evidence to support that. Perhaps it was his joke. This extends to him writing some words as if they are in a Scottish accent. “Heelanmon” for Highlandman, “tellit” for told and “aboot” for about.
The message references Anderson and Dodds. And here is an advertisement for their products. What is the connection to James Noble?
