Just a small card to wish you m h returns of your birthday. Mother left here yesterday morn with W to Lanc. Mr & Mrs Fry are coming here today for a holiday. Mrs W son and daughter go tomorrow. Then we shall be rather quiet. I rather expect Belle next week. L and Albert come on the 4th September. Please do try & get up that week.

Jane was in service in Caton, Lancashire in 1911. In 1923, aged 33, she married Thomas Armer (1889-1980), a steam roller driver by trade. They had one child.

what the card says to us

The card is a birthday card. The image looks strange to modern day eyes. The perspective of the little table looks wrong. The dark background makes the figure look spooky.

The impression from the message is that the sender lives in a property where guests are frequent. Perhaps it is a hotel or a guest house. 

It is possible that the sender is a family member and that some of the people mentioned in the message are also family members. Unfortunately the writing makes it difficult to decide.
