George Canham (1894-1079) was the son of Daniel Canham (1864-1949) and Eliza Buck (1866-1956). In 1901 Daniel was listed as a Cow Man, in 1911 a Farm Labourer and in 1939 a gardener.

George was a Trainee Ship Boy in 1911 on the Royal Navy Training Ship Arethusa (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Arethusa_(1849). He then served on a number of ships until 1924. In 1939 he was an Electrical Crane Driver.

George was one of fifteen children.

In 1922 he married Sybil Naomi Barker (1903-1983) who is the recipient of this birthday card.

what the card says to us

This is a birthday card sent by a husband to his wife.

The curious thing is that he posted it. With a stamp. And wrote “Local” under the address. Limpenhoe is a very small place and was even smaller in 1935.
