There are no clues to the identity of MH and sadly some of the message is not readable because it has faded so much.

the recipient

Mary Ellen Meaden nee Sains (1876-1959) was the daughter of George Sains (1853-1935) and Matilda Querry (1853-1923) . George was a Wheelwright and Coachbuilder from Essex.

Mary Ellen was one of 14 children and in 1901 she was a domestic servant in Maldon, Essex and she married George Edward Meaden (1872-1931), a Railway Clerk. They had one daughter, Lily Edith Mary Meaden (1907-1992), a Private Dressmaker, who was living with widowed Mary Ellen in 1939.

what the card says to us

The picture shows a view of the popular beauty spot of Beachy Head (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beachy_Head) . Sadly it is also renowned as a place where people commit suicide. In the foreground is a family group taking a walk. Whatever happened to them? Beachy Head is close to Eastbourne which is where the card was posted.

A curious thing about the card is the perforated left hand edge.

Unfortunately some of the message is too faint to read. What can be read is a straightforward holiday message.
