“Brynawel

Dear Mrs Thomas

I am very sorry I shall not be able to come to Henllan in the morning on Wednesday. I shall try to come in the evening when I hope to see you there.

With kind regards

Yours sincerely

M Davies”

THE SENDER

Moreton Davies (1880-1919) was the son of William Davies (1844-?) and Hannah Jones (1851-?). William was a Mechanical Engineer.

Moreton was a head teacher. In 1907 he married Amelia Jenkins (1880-?).

THE RECIPIENT

Margaret Thomas nee Evans (1878-?) is a bit of a mystery. In 1907 she married William Thomas (1877-?) who was a tailor.

what the card says to us

The picture shows the famous English public school, Harrow (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harrow_School ) which does not appear to have any connection to the message.

The surnames related to the card, Thomas, Evans, Davies and Jenkins illustrate how difficult it can be to trace individuals within Welsh records. That applies even when there is an unusual first name like Moreton.

The message itself is all about about a meeting that is not going to take place. what was it about? Why was it taking place at Henllyn? We will never know.
