Dear Jane

I thought I would send you an actress for a change.

We have had Uncle John + Isaac over from Bradford. When is Uncle Edward coming

Alice"

Alice Wrathall (1889-1969) was the daughter of William George Wrathall (1865-1936) and Elizabeth Alice Nelson (1862-1940). William was a dairy farmer. Alice was the first cousin of the recipient as their fathers were brothers.

Alice did not marry. In 1911 she was working on her father's farm. She was 15 years old when she sent this card.

what the card says to us

The picture shows the actress and music hall star Marie Studholme (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marie_Studholme) and this is referred to in the message.

Alice and Jane were of a similar age and the message suggests that they frequently corresponded using postcards.

The message also mentions members of the extended Wrathall family, namely uncles John, and Edward plus Isaac. The extended family is very large and here are suggestions as to the identities and these 3.

Uncle Edward is probably Albert Edward Wrathall (1872-1931).

Isaac is probably Isaac Dickinson (1842-?) who was the brother of Jane's mother Emily Bargh Dickinson.

Uncle John is harder to identify as there are a number of candidates none of whom appear to live in Bradford.
