the message
"Many thanks for your charming PPC. I shall begin to be conceited if you say that my absence made any difference at Dacre. Honestly. I was awfully glad to meet all the nice people there, of course not omitting your benign smiles across the dining table. I leave Central at 10.30 a.m. Sal ? would be awfully delighted to see you. Had a nice journey home with Mr J H
Kind Regards
W Robertson
Doesn't work seem rotten? I had a p.c. from "Horrors"

There are no clues to W Robertson's identity. Not even whether they are male or female.
the recipient
George D Logan was born about 1884 in Scotland. In 1901 and in 1906 when this card was sent, he was living at a boarding house in Ellison Place in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. In 1901 he was working as a clerk. That is all that is known about him.
the places
Hebburn and Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, Tyne and Wear
what the card says to us
The picture shows Miss Mabel Love (1874-1953), a dancer and actress and famed Victorian beauty (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mabel_Love). There is no connection to the message.
The message is packed with references and clues to the relationship between W Robertson and George D Logan but tantalisingly it remains just out of reach. The real problem is the lack of family context. Because George is living in a boarding house without any family to help place him, he remains a mystery.
Where is Dacre? It is possible that it refers to Dacre House in Killingworth in Newcastle. What happened there? Was it a restaurant? Was it a club?
Is W flirting with George when "benign smiles" are mentioned?
Who is Sal?
Where is Central? It sounds like a station. What is the significance of leaving there at 10.30 am?
Who is Mr J H and where does he fit in?
Who is "Horrors"? Presumably that is a nickname, but where does it come from?
So many questions and so few answers.
A footnote is that this card was obviously kept pinned to another card sent by W to George in the same year. Why was that? Follow this link to that card.
