We Are All Just Going To Fanny-On-The-Hill

October 1, 2018

This 1905 card informs a young man’s mother that he has arrived safely at his brother’s and they are gong to the pub. And the story behind the card shows how names and spellings can change over time when conveyed by word of mouth.

This card was posted in Ireland in 1904. It looks like part of a series. It is like one sentence in a longer conversation.

All Friends Conference London 1920

December 16, 2017

This card was initially very challenging because the surname looks like both Oakes and Baker. It turned out to be Oakes with the biggest clue being the marriage of Edwin Cyril Oakes in Cardiff in 1919.

There are a lot that connects the Quakers to this card, not least the source and the picture.
